Poem Reflection
A living piece from the World Poetry Hub library — written to be read, heard, shared, and remembered.
If I said I never loved,
I’d be lying.
Like most people,
I over-love.
In fact,
I still over-love—
the only difference now
is that I put myself first.
I love myself first.
I’ve learned,
after so many times,
that true love
can also turn
into pure hate.
And though our experiences
may differ,
I know all beings
can relate.
Is it truly better
to have loved
than never loved at all?
Cold-heartedly,
I question that.
Why even love at all?
In a perfect world,
it would be good
to be loved by you.
It would be wonderful
to be loved by me.
But in my memoir,
I wonder if I’ll ever
love like that again—
live like that again.
Gender-neutral or not,
I am love-neutral.
Still learning
to love myself—
that selfish self,
gluttonous
for its own affection,
and maybe never ready
to share that love
again.
